‘Days of our Lives’ 40th Anniversary Show

SoapTalk

Recapped by nicholsevansfan…

I was lucky enough to attend a taping of SoapTalk that Stephen filmed yesterday, Saturday, October 8, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Days of our Lives. The other current and former actors attending included Frances Reid (Alice), Kristian Alfonso (Hope), Peter Reckell (Bo), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Deidre Hall (Marlena), Suzanne Rogers (Maggie), Drake Hogestyn (John), and Charles Shaughnessy (ex-Shane). I truly enjoyed this taping–it was very well done.

This is a preview of the Stephen stuff I saw, but encourage everyone to watch the whole show if you get SoapNet….

Setting the scene:

(Deidre and Drake, Peter and Kristian, Suzanne and Missy, came out before Stephen and Charlie. When each pair of actors were introduced, they would each come out from opposite sides of this staged-section, meet up at the center of it, and kiss or hug and walk down into the sofa/seated section of the stage where the interview was held. )

Stephen and Charlie are introduced at the same time (and they show a clip of Kim and Shane). Stephen comes out wearing the patch and he and Charlie meet at the center of the stage-thing— and they pretend to kiss, LOL. It was hysterical  🙂   They walk back towards the sofa and everyone hugs Stephen so tightly! It was so good to see how happy they all were to see him. Good hugs!

Stephen looks great, as always! He was wearing a black leather jacket (very nice) and his hair was a little shorter than it was last time I saw him at his fan dinner in July.

I was so excited at my great view during the first few segments (front row right in front of the sofa!) Well, when Stephen was seated, the cameras were specifically blocking my view of Stephen. I was able to watch him through their BLACK AND WHITE monitor on the camera :::sigh:::. Anyway back to my preview….

They showed the Steve and Kayla clip: Their exchange of vows in the snow (well mostly his part of that). Great choice! I couldn’t see Stephen’s reaction to it but everyone else was smiling. Peter laughed that Stephen was wearing a leather jacket as Steve in the scene–and that all the 80’s guys on Days had to wear a similar leather jacket.

One of the first questions to Stephen was about his patch, and he said, yes he wore a plastic one at first and when he got the contract, he went to Hollywood to a leather shop (at this point Deidre made a funny statement that cracked me up! She said…. “Well of course you did”…HEE HEE ) and had one made.

They asked Stephen about his first impression when he met Mary Beth, or something along those lines. I was struggling to get a view of the man, so I blocked everything else out, LOL. But anyway, he was more than happy to mention Mary Beth. As always, he was totally sweet with what he said about her. He said that Mary Beth is just the most cheerful person he knows, and really, everyone at the studio could have told you that. (The actors were all smiling/agreeing). And, that the day she auditioned, she was the 4th or so actress to come in. At the end, she didn’t like her audition and said that was–Stephen stopped himself before saying “shit”, and laughed, guessing he can’t say the word on TV. Lisa and Ty laughed and one of them said, you can say Doodie…LOL.

Stephen continued about how, really, a lot of actors aren’t honest that way, so he knew right away that he would just love this person. (something along those lines.).

Charlie chimed in and added that you could not keep a straight face if you were in a scene with Mary Beth. He and/or Stephen mentioned that there were several times they got into trouble because they couldn’t get through a scene without laughing–just because Mary Beth was saying/doing something hysterical.

Charlie also mentioned a set for the Stockholm story, where about five of them were all stuck in this tunnel/cheap set that resembled a part of an ant farm or something (Drake and Stephen laughed), and how it was kind of tight in this small set…and inevitably, someone “cut the cheese”. I think he was about to go into how Mary Beth reacted to that whole situation, but he lost his train of thought, or I didn’t hear him well. (I do so wish Mary Beth could’ve been there, too!)

In between segments…

At one point (when the camera man finally moved), Stephen looked right in my direction, and he saw me just as I was about to wave, and waved at me, smiling big. I think he asked me if that was me screaming (ya, it was, LOL, but I wasn’t the only one) when his name was called. Then he asked something else, but I couldn’t make it out. He looked around for other fans. Some girls in the middle of the audience yelled out, HI STEVE! And he said Hey baby! LOL, it made their day.

Also in between segments, each actor filmed a little clip saying, ‘Happy 40th Anniversary Days of our Lives‘. I was told they all filmed separate promos for the special SoapTalk episode before the show as well.

There was a segment about love scenes. Stephen mentioned filming the love scene on the roof, and how there was a lot of water, and that is another scene that really cracked Mary Beth up, because they would be switching back and forth between her and a body double since she was VERY pregnant at the time.

The last segment was a toast with chocolate and champagne.

Once the cameras were off, everyone hugged each other goodbye and the SoapNet folks took pictures. Stephen made the rounds, catching up with everyone from the cast, and really got even bigger, better hugs this time, from everyone.
